To protect your skin from day in and day out ultraviolet exposure you should always use a moisturizer with an SPF of 15 or higher. Facial moisturizers are not adequate for recreational use, so if you're planning to spend the day at the beach, you'll need additional sun protection. The feature that you want to have in your daily protection is a sunscreen that protects against both UVA (aging) and UVB (burning) rays.

Be sure to ex foliate your skin before applying self-tanner and do NOT use moisturizer beforehand or the product will not adhere properly. Wash your hands after applying. If you want to self-tan your feet, be sure to lightly brush the tops of your feet, including toes, so the tanner won't adhere to dry spots, making it look unnatural. You can even put a light coating of petroleum jelly between your toes to keep the product from creeping in and creating dark shadows. Carefully wipe between your toes with a tissue when application is complete.
