Applying lip liner can be challenging, but it's easier if you remember a few simple guidelines. For the most natural look, follow the edge (or rim) of your lip starting at the top or bow of the lips. With short, feathery strokes follow along to the corner of each side of the lip. Next, line the bottom lip from the center, outward to the corners. It is very important to fill in the rest of your lip with lip liner so as to not leave a single line. Apply lip color that matches as closely as possible to the shade of lip liner that you are using.

Sometimes lip liner can look too obvious. To avoid that look, choose a lip liner shade that is as close to the color of your lip color as possible. After lining the lips, fill in your entire lip with liner. Then, as the lip color wears off, the liner remains, avoiding the "rimmed look" of just an outline of liner.

To make your lip color last longer, first define your lips with Lip liner then fill in your entire lip with liner before applying lip color. If you are not using a lip liner, then apply Lip color, blot it, and then reapply more lip color. Follow that by applying Lip-gloss.

If your top lip is thinner than your bottom lip, begin by applying Lip liner just inside the edge of your bottom lip. Then define the top lip by applying just slightly beyond the edge of the top lip. This will also help if you apply Lip-gloss to the upper lip but keep the bottom lip a little more matte.

If you want to make your lips look fuller, use lip liner to define the edge of your lips. Stay with a shade that closely matches your lip color, or use a neutral, skin-toned shade for lip lining. Soft, matte lip colors will help give you the look of fuller lips. The more contrasting the colors are between your lip liner and lip color, the smaller your lips will actually appear.
